Hi internet friend!

I started Black Chalk Collective in December 2015 as a creative side biz while I was studying my Bachelor of Business Management and working full-time as an Executive Assistant to a CEO. My original dream was to bring my weirdo sense of humour into the greeting card world because funny cards just weren’t that funny anymore! (If they ever were? They weren’t. Still aren’t.)

But… without knowing how to use any kind of graphic design software at the time, I had to get my hands dirty. The illustration and hand lettering process made me fall in love with art all over again – something I hadn’t touched since school.

It took me almost 3 decades, but I finally found my ‘thing’! My happy place,  my ‘me time’ activity, my hobby and my passion. In the space of 2 years, I attracted over 100,000 followers on social media by sharing everything I know about art and creativity, showing people you don’t need a million years of experience or a design degree to be good at art, and by putting the FUN into fundamental skills and knowledge.

I left my corporate job in 2017 to run Black Chalk Collective full time. As well as running BCC, I launched Penultimate Magazine in mid-2017, a bi-monthly digital magazine dedicated to lettering, opened my online watercolour school in 2018 and created my own line of handmade watercolours in 2019.

These days my focus is on teaching others watercolour, brush lettering and modern calligraphy through online classes, in-person workshops, my book and social media, as well as regularly completing design work for corporate clients.
